Summer the First Time

 Inspired by John Ogden's painting ' The Awakening '

 Who was it,
 That said;
 Tarts have no hearts?

 No amount
 Of money ever.
 Would cover the cost,
 Or ease the pain.
 Of Innocence lost.

 Or was it offered
 Willingly.
 As a Sacrifice.
 On the Altar of Love?

 The Night knew,
 But was not saying.
 The Morning saw,
 And never uttered a word.
