I saw through the night,
My eyes, always on you,
Instead of the knife.

Wings, wild across the white,
Heart still filled with horror,
So, on and on - and out of sight.

Naivety, leads to fighting,
Like pencil leads to writing.
Wings, used to fly,
Like fathers are to leaving,
No need to try.

Tonight, tonight,
Through windows, the sky,
Gimme, gimme,
The other songs I like.

Say say say,
Bye bye bye,
Turning points,
Within my life,
Whatever music,
Is in the air tonight.

I wish I could just kill the truth,
Silver over tongue, under roof,
Into the groove, into the wound,
Alchohol of distant, citrus fruits.

Oh, and I still love you,
But that too, turns to abuse,
Then silence fills a room.

What have I been up to?
I wish I could tell you the truth,
Simple over tongue, under roof,
I still love you, but I'm one of two,
Easier said than lived through.

Aversion to food,
Repulsion, to new,
Compulsion to move.

I can teach every piece,
How to act like a queen,
And handle a gun too.

Substance abuse,
Strum of the lute,
Analyze the root,
What else is there to do?

Different from truth,
Discernment of rules,
Intersections near you,
Diameter of the moon.

Enthusiasm for two,
Quadratures of lune,
Assertion of youth,
What else is there to do?

Sit around saying I love you?
Well, compared to whom?
All I am is a friend,
A Nobody to see through.

Carefree, on hemp seed,
A puzzle, along with hep C,
Treated like edge pieces,
Touched first, then only seen.

26 ounces to freedom,
Buried under flowery teachers,
Empty encounters, and fools either.

Cartoonish freedom,
Act II, Scene I, Julius Caesar,
You learn through teamwork,
To hate what you love,
To harm your equals.

What, beyond commerce, makes poorer people?
Judgement in the form of evil,
Husbandry, broken femurs,
Leaders, in court of reason.

And probably threesomes too.
But when Gordon hears a who,
I never leave a room,
In fact, I totally approve.,
Like I was told a deeper truth.

Belly distend, body groan,
Inside you hope for inner growth,
Instead, you'll fight in civil court.

Doesn't it get a little old?
Every night you lock the door,
Enter your room, turn the radio on...
It's what you know, and fear.

Doesn't it seem a little odd?
Where was he when you need him?
Doesn't it get a little old?
Every night, a knock at the door,
Enter your room, turn the radio on....

So where was he by morning? Gone?
You lock the door, a window breaks,
Your father comes, fixes everything,
Doesn't it get a little old?
Doesn't it seem a little odd?
Inside, you hope for inner growth,
Instead, you'll fight in civil court.

Shadow cast across their skin,
Romance,
Allow me a dance along thin,
White lines with darker ends.

Value passed through generation,
Thank you, and oft veneration,
And off to the races,
White lines drawn to darker ends.

And Why is it, he beats me still?
Alas,
Answers,
White lies to darker ends.

Romance, allow me a dance,
Along lines, dark wide expanse,
Around what lies in my bed,
Along legs and under hands.

I watch as the white lines dance,
Eyes: water, shut. Demands...
Then an end to nice guy acts,
I'm not the one, but for now, I am.

Maroon, like red in the sea,
Darkness: blue and green.

Hardest to reach,
Harder to please,
Wanton to breathe.
I feel like water through beans,
Merely used, to clean.

Maroon, red in the sea,
Water is actually all I see.

Refuse to leave,
Refuse to see,
Refuse to kneel.

Amateur poet, do you hear me,
What languages do you speak?

What is blue all the way through?
Very few things, one of them you.
Just like neighbourhood maples,
Who grew oversea, good natured,
Booked a flight, made into paper.

What's new? I changed, too...
All the way to the roots.

Well, a limb moves, the ring too,
The tip of which is turning blue,
What cures the sickness of wealth?
Very few things, among them death,
Worse is truth and active dis proof.

Spruce and denim, Jus, ad bellum,
In the end, they feel something too.

Just not what the majority do.
Red right to wage fights like war,
Just as much as the admiral's blue.

Simply tell me,
Simply tell me,
Simpleton, weed,
Between clenched teeth,
Tension of three, from one.

Petty...
Pretty periwinkle.

You wash your hands of disease,
You never wash your hands of me.
Like Adam kissed Eve,
Rustling leaves, in the city,
Not at the extremes.

And make believe is more for cocaine users,
Not people like me,
Explore as many worlds as you see,
You'll find in the end the colors are three.

Plus,
It might seem petty,
But your shade is ultramarine.

And it's shady people like you,
That changes people's creed,
Like a stringed needle,
Pulled straight through teeth,
It's not the pain they fear,
It's the permanence you seek.

Blue, green,
In between,
To me?
It's everything.

But they only see through me,
Shield to shield, grit teeth,
Never can I achieve peace.
It never appealed to me,
Supposedly.

But, little does,
Just a few blue themes.

So, to routine...
For you, more meaning.
Cold reading: "horses,
leeches".

Vernacular dances,
In between:
Lavender, Lapis,
Cerulean.

Javelins, catchers,
In between:
Distance, anger,
Foolishness.

But, that's not how they saw me.
Target practice, fresh meat,
Free of lines like double basses,
Yet to see it's own selfish strings.

Yet, upon a blue sky, I fly and sing.

Ballet shoes, champagne flutes,
Game room hue suede blue,
Cocktails offstage too.

Maybe I'll leave the wave pool,
Establish new trade routes,
Maybe not, who knows?
Bottles for now though.

Broadway too,
Wet roots, wrestling boots.
Scale teeth need scraping through.

But,
The veiled truth is you wade,
Life is a swamp,
They lie,
Blue in the face,
Tell you it's not that way.

Broadway, grey hues,
Costumed plays,
Or he borrows like hooped snakes.
Babe, that ain't for you,
It's not for anyone with a brain.

though it has been so long, i have not forgotten you.
i have searched for you among the crowded shelves of bookshops, the cobbled displays of libraries, the take-one-leave-one boxes scattered through town.
i have dug deep in my jacket pockets for the notes and coins needed to take you home with me.
i have cradled you close to me underneath my coat while i am waiting for the 6:58 bus.
i have found you in tulip bulbs peeking above the soul for the sun, late august thunderstorms that pelted our new apartment, the january wind that brings ice and chapped hands.

you have made sure your spine stands straighter when i roam through each aisle, saturated and dewey with books.
you have pushed the dimes and nickels into my grasping fingers so that we may spend our time together that much quicker.
you have squeezed me hard as we step off the bus at 7:34.
you have flung yourself through the sky and earth to find me in the smallest of stolen moments. you kiss my hands and my head and flush them rosy with emotion.
you have not forgotten me either, it seems.

Sitting outside the shop on a cloudy May afternoon, my hand scrawls on the back of a receipt
a list of the aspects of myself:

- the moles in morse code down the side of my face ($4.99)
- the scars on my leg in bumpy braille ($12.76)
- the skin covering my knuckles, shining where it has split so many times over ($29.97, sale price)
- the soul filled with self-loathing, boiling, bubbling over the rim ($10.19)
- my spine, doubled over and bent backward ($17.22, CLEARANCE)
- the effort I put into eject all but the smallest parts of myself
as a collection of trinkets, an amalgamation of dust bunnies ($0.99)

I must have picked these up, absentmindedly, through my time in the shop. Where can I put these back? I didn't want them. Why did I pay for them, pulling out my wallet in a daze? I never knew they existed. I must have entered a girl and left a much older woman. How long was I standing underneath the humming lights?

I crumple up the scratch paper and toss it in the bin as the sun waves from the overcast.

It was cold & the sky was too red as the sunset came too early - my brain was spinning with those letters & numbers & they were falling out of my ears. I looked at the asphalt and I saw my past and future yawning out - both in the same direction on the one-way road but my ears were too cold to listen, to learn. It was too austere in the building & too frigid outside & too glacial in the car picking its way home through the ice and old snow. It was too much too few & not enough of anything at all. & it swarmed. Threes with wings and velocities out with compound eyes buzz & sting & leave me paralyzed, there on the curb.

Big curls, bench presses,
High dives into the deep end
Swim laps
Gettin' down with my boys
Hard drugs through the weekend
I feel that

Bike ride through the trees
See the colours change
Run flat across the bay
Just to tell my maynes

I'm bored, ditched lessons
I'm hitting up my best friends
But I'll nap first
Big curls, bench presses
Torn bicep and a bong rip
Yo, I'm good now

Skateboard through the crowds
Where the streets are paved
Eat shit, get scraped
I can feel no pain

Easin' down with my boys
Slow cookin' through the weekend
I feel that
A bit of strings, sum tings
Got damn, such a feeling
To feel that

‘O Romeo Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo’,
The birds sing along to Juliets cries,
Is it so wrong to want a Tudor love,
Lived through 21st century eyes.

To kill yourself to be with them,
Rather than have to live alone,
It truly makes you understand,
The idea that a person can be a home.

And though some may call this type of love shallow,
I say they’re lies from a person who does not relate,
The need of a love so sweet and tragic,
United by fate.

A treasure full of dreams
A future wrapped in gold
What our indecisions bring
Within each box that life will hold

Hidden in the square
Amongst the corrugated seams
Is more than just thin air
And the light from distant beams

There are memories we have known
Within the box that cannot part
Like the flowers that have grown
Just to touch a gentle heart

Upon these feathers within a box
I shall sleep on them tonight
And to the ticking of the clock
I shall dance the angel’s flight

Says the label dressed in red,
“Never touch what’s in the box”
So many thoughts run through my head
Of all the moments we have lost
